About The Position

WEIS is seeking a Bakery Sales Associate for its location at 316 Walnut Street. The role involves maintaining a well-stocked and appealing bakery department, providing excellent customer service by greeting customers, making suggestions, answering questions, and resolving concerns. The associate will also take customer orders in person or over the phone, determine customer preferences for products, set up special-order tables and displays, and may be required to write on cakes. Key responsibilities include ensuring merchandise is fresh, saleable, and correctly priced, handling spoiled or damaged products according to company procedures, and maintaining general department sanitation by following cleaning schedules and health/OSHA requirements. The position may also involve assisting with the production of baked goods, adhering to production logs and recipes, receiving and storing deliveries using power or hand jacks (with training), baling cardboard (with training), minimizing shrink, reporting shortages/overages, and cooperating with co-workers and supervisors to ensure smooth department and store function. Continuous improvement of job performance and utilization of company-provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE) are also required. The associate may be called upon to assist in other departments.

Requirements

  • Completed or working towards a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Keeps bakery department well stocked and appealing to meet customer demand.
  • Smiles and greets customers, makes suggestions, answers questions about various products.
  • Helps resolve customer concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Takes customer orders over the phone or in person at the store with a pleasant and positive attitude.
  • Determines what the customer is looking for in terms of size, flavor, and appearance.
  • Sets up special-order tables during peak hours and shopping days.
  • Sets bakery cases and builds displays as needed.
  • May also be required to write on cakes.
  • Ensures that merchandise is fresh, in saleable condition and properly priced with the correct signage.
  • Handles spoiled and damaged product, or product that is close to expiration, according to company procedures and standards.
  • Removes product that is not saleable to ensure quality.
  • May assist with the production of breads, pastries and other baked goods to sell.
  • Adheres to use of production logs and company approved recipes.
  • Responsible for general sanitation in the department.
  • Follows cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements.
  • Disposes of trash properly.
  • May assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries through operation of a power jack or hand jack (if properly trained –training provided).
  • May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained.
  • Assists in minimizing shrink and controlling damages.
  • Reports shortages or overages to manager.
  • Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Responsible to continuously improve job performance.
  • Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE).
  • May also be called upon to assist in other departments.
