About The Position
The Bakery Meal Plant Material Handler at Smithfield Foods is a vital role within the bakery meal production process, responsible for operating powered industrial vehicles and equipment to transport, load, and unload both raw materials and finished products. This position is essential for ensuring compliance with established procedures related to quality, productivity, and safety. The Material Handler will be expected to follow standard operating instructions and procedures diligently, which includes the inspection and safe operation of powered industrial vehicles, maintaining cleanliness, and managing inventory effectively. In this role, the Material Handler will operate powered industrial vehicles across various areas of the plant, regulating the blending of materials as instructed to achieve the desired product consistency and moisture levels. The position also involves assisting with inventory management and performing housekeeping duties, which includes taking the initiative to help maintain orderliness throughout the plant. The Material Handler will be responsible for spotting trailers for unloading and unloading both bulk and palletized trailers, ensuring that all tasks are performed in accordance with the site's Environmental Management System Policy. This includes adhering to environmental policies, reporting any environmental issues to supervisors, and understanding the proper procedures to follow in case of an environmental emergency. The job requires a commitment to safety and the protection of company assets while minimizing risks to fellow workers. The responsibilities outlined are not exhaustive, and the Material Handler may be assigned additional duties as needed. This position is full-time and may require working nights, holidays, and weekends, with an average of 50 hours per week, depending on business needs.
