About The Position

The Bakery Meal Plant Maintenance Technician is trained to service and maintain bakery meal processing equipment. This position is expected to carry out job tasks to assure compliance with established procedures relative to quality, productivity, and safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Must be able to work with and around a wide range of bakery waste products some of which will contain allergens (i.e. peanuts).
  • Prior experience in industrial maintenance is required.
  • Ability to read and understand common documents such as safety rules, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.
  • Must be able to work an average of 50-hour weeks, including night, holiday and weekend when required.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (training to be completed during on-site orientation).
  • Articulated Loader Operation.
  • Bobcat/Skid Steer Operation.
  • Tractor Operation (Bucket and Callahan Lift Attachment).
  • Forklift Operation Certification.
  • Spotter Truck Operation (select individuals only).
  • Truck Dump Operation (select individuals only).
  • Confined Space Entry and Rescue Technician.
  • Fall Protection and Prevention.
  • Electrical Safety/Arc Flash Qualified.
  • Cutting/Welding/Grind Proficiency.
  • Authorized Lockout/Tagout.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED.

Responsibilities

  • Follows standard operating instructions/procedures in the performance of all duties, including inspection and safe operation of powered industrial vehicles, housekeeping, and servicing of process equipment.
  • Daily preventive and light corrective maintenance, with knowledge of procedures and frequencies on all process equipment. This includes proper lubrication selection and amounts.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose process equipment problems and assist in the planning, performance and assignment of proper repair.
  • Machine work and welding on a regular basis.
  • Work with internal combustion engines.
  • Reads schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Operates powered industrial vehicles in all areas.
  • Perform assigned housekeeping duties. Takes initiative to assist other workers to maintain and ensure the orderliness and housekeeping of all areas of the plant.
  • Acquires and maintains necessary certifications (weigh master, forklift, articulated loader, skid steer, tractor, etc.).
  • Services, maintains, and operates equipment in a safe manner so as to protect the assets of the company and reduce risks to other workers.
  • Performing all work tasks in a manner consistent with the site's Environmental Management System Policy.
  • Maintains personal safety as well as the safety of other workers by taking an active role in the Smithfield Injury Prevention System (SIPS).
