Pay Transparency: Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay, paid holidays, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis. For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a focus on fast and friendly service.
  • Assist customers with product suggestions, special orders, and preparation recommendations.
  • Answer and respond to incoming calls professionally; resolve customer complaints or escalate to the Store Director as needed.
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, intercom announcements, and one‑on‑one interactions.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of duties performed by all department employees; oversee and assist with preparation, handling, and display of bakery products.
  • Implement proper and efficient product preparation, handling, and packaging techniques.
  • Maintain bakery case presentation, cleanliness, visual appeal, and inventory levels.
  • Ensure all bakery equipment, prep areas, and workspaces are clean, sanitized, and maintained to standard.
  • Maintain required product temperatures throughout preparation, display, and storage.
  • Follow proper opening and closing procedures for the bakery department.
  • Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to bakery employees; ensure adequate staffing and service levels.
  • Train employees on store policies, sales processes, food safety, and record‑keeping procedures.
  • Identify high‑potential employees and support their development for advancement.
  • Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance.
  • Lead and/or support personnel actions including interviews, promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions.
  • Plan daily operations and monitor production processes to maintain efficiency and profitability.
  • Prepare sales and inventory reports; participate in physical inventory every 4 weeks.
  • Control inventory to ensure proper quantity, quality, and freshness while maintaining division‑directed inventory levels.
  • Stock, rotate, and maintain product in cooler and freezer areas.
  • Reduce shrink through proper handling, storage, ordering, dating, and rotation practices.
  • Build attractive displays and remove outdated or spoiled products promptly.
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal merchandising plans.
  • Maintain working knowledge of company policies as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Enforce proper code‑dating procedures for all products within the department.
  • Ensure compliance with food handling, temperature control, sanitation, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the bakery work area and equipment.
  • Ensure a safe work environment by following all safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Uphold department standards for quality, preparation, service, and presentation.
  • Perform receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying orders, inspecting product quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product.
  • Follow temperature guidelines, storage requirements, and approved packaging techniques.
  • Complete and maintain required administrative paperwork and accurate departmental records.
