About The Position

The Bakery Manager is responsible for leading all bakery department operations, including production, merchandising, food safety, inventory control, and team performance. This role ensures high‑quality products, strong in‑stock conditions, and an exceptional customer experience while driving sales, controlling shrink, and developing associates.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in bakery, food production, or retail department management.
  • Knowledge of baking processes, food safety standards, and sanitation practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage daily operations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Familiarity with inventory systems, forecasting, and production planning.
  • Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and move bakery products and supplies up to company‑defined weight limits.
  • Ability to work in varied temperatures, including warm production areas.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop bakery supervisors and associates.
  • Establish clear expectations for production, quality, food safety, and customer service.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safety‑focused work environment.
  • Support associate development and succession planning within the department.
  • Oversee daily bakery production, including baking, finishing, and replenishment.
  • Ensure fresh product availability through effective production planning.
  • Maintain consistent quality, taste, and presentation standards.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, rotation, and labeling of all bakery items.
  • Maintain clean, organized production and sales areas.
  • Execute bakery merchandising standards, planograms, pricing, and signage accurately.
  • Drive sales through attractive displays and strong promotional execution.
  • Ensure bakery cases are full, clean, and visually appealing.
  • Support seasonal, holiday, and promotional programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Enforce proper procedures related to time and temperature controls, sanitation, and cleanliness.
  • Ensure all associates are trained on food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Partner with store leadership during audits and inspections.
  • Manage ordering, inventory, and ingredient control to support production needs.
  • Monitor shrink and waste, implementing corrective action as needed.
  • Manage labor usage effectively while meeting production and service expectations.
  • Review department reports and performance metrics to drive improvements.
  • Promote a customer‑first culture through service excellence.
  • Address customer questions, special orders, and concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure consistent execution of service, quality, and cleanliness standards.
  • Partner closely with the Store Director, Assistant Store Director, and other department managers.
  • Communicate priorities, production plans, and expectations clearly to the team.
  • Support store‑wide initiatives, seasonal transitions, and operational changes.
