About The Position

Bakery Manager Purpose: Provides strong customer service, ensures superior product quality, and maintains adequate fresh inventory. Has full working knowledge of all bakery department functions. Responsible for keeping inventory fresh, processing administrative paperwork, and maintaining accurate department records. Duties and Responsibilities: - Maintains an enthusiastic atmosphere focused on fast and friendly customer service. - Assists customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders, and offering food preparation recommendations. - Answers incoming calls, responds appropriately, and resolves customer complaints; escalates to Store Director as needed. - Uses suggestive selling techniques via phone, intercom, and direct interaction. - Has full knowledge of all department duties and assists with preparation and product displays. - Ensures proper and efficient product preparation and packaging techniques. - Maintains bakery case cleanliness, visual appeal, and inventory levels. - Ensures department cleanliness, sanitation, equipment upkeep, and workplace safety. - Ensures temperatures are maintained during preparation, display, and storage. - Schedules, supervises, trains, and assigns duties to bakery staff; ensures adequate coverage and service levels. - Plans daily operations and monitors production processes according to company procedures and profitability goals. - Prepares sales and inventory reports; conducts physical inventory every 4 weeks. - Controls inventory to maintain product quantity, quality, and freshness; stocks and rotates product; maintains and organizes coolers and freezers. - Controls shrink and costs. - Maintains knowledge of all opening and closing procedures. - Builds displays, rotates stock, and removes spoiled or outdated product; maintains clean work areas. - Understands and follows company policies outlined in the Employee Handbook. - Ensures proper code dating of all bakery products. - Trains employees on store policies, sales processes, and record-keeping procedures. - Identifies and develops high-potential employees for advancement. - Monitors employee productivity and assesses performance. - Initiates personnel actions including interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary measures. - Maintains and enforces department standards. - Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays. - Performs receiving duties: breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product. - Follows proper product temperature, storage, and packaging guidelines. - Processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department records. - Completes and maintains required daily logs, production charts, and sales and labor documents. - Attends sales meetings and communicates department goals, performance, and opportunities to employees. - Ensures accurate pricing, signage, and compliance with labeling laws and food safety regulations. - Ensures sanitation of sales floor, prep areas, coolers, freezers, equipment, and displays. - Uses emergency procedures in the event of equipment or software issues. - Performs all duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity. - Performs other required duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to maintain professional demeanor.
  • Good understanding of company practices and bakery policies.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver items up to 60 lbs; frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions required.
  • Must comply with grooming and dress code standards.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand–eye coordination required; able to stand for long periods.
  • Must remain mentally alert; requires basic math skills and understanding of weights and measures.
  • Knowledge of product variety, perishability, handling, sanitation, labeling, and department procedures.
  • Operates telephones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, safety cutters, bread slicers, photo cake machines, mixers, microwaves, ovens, and proof boxes. Uses cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Uses computer software and electronic ordering devices.
  • Must be available for nights, weekends, and holidays; schedule varies. Good attendance required.
  • Exposure to various equipment and tools presents potential hazards.
