About The Position

The Bakery Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations and merchandising functions of the bakery department, ensuring that customer needs are met through effective management. This role involves leading and training department associates, managing performance and productivity, and optimizing department goals while providing a remarkable shopping experience for customers.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and team-building skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and suggestive selling ability.
  • Strong organization, administration, and math skills.
  • Knowledge of department operations and financials.
  • Knowledge of bakery products and food safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of baking and decorating techniques.
  • Knowledge of visual merchandising techniques.
  • Ability to use and care for professional bakery equipment and tools.
  • Understanding of applicable union contractual agreement language.
  • Education: One year of college or equivalent knowledge through education or experience.
  • Experience: Two years in a Bakery Department or current role in Produce, Meat, or Center Store Department.

  • Experience in a managerial role within a retail environment.
  • Knowledge of inventory management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customers with a remarkable shopping experience by demonstrating, training, and holding store associates accountable for excellent customer service.
  • Achieve department financials by identifying, defining, and implementing best practices and optimization strategies.
  • Directly lead department staff with a focus on accountability and achieving high business performance outcomes.
  • Develop department staff through appraisals, supervision reports, and performance reviews.
  • Implement visual merchandising and planning to emphasize freshness.
  • Utilize resources to improve productivity, flexibility, and efficiencies of labor.
  • Oversee schematic implementation, stocking standards, and back room organization.
  • Manage product rotation, spoilage, shrink, and markdowns.
  • Ensure overall cleanliness and conditions of the department.
  • Manage sign and price integrity for the department.
  • Ensure bakery products are prepared according to guidelines and special orders are fulfilled.
  • Train department staff on procedures, food preparation, and safety.
  • Order products and analyze performance to maximize sales and profitability.
  • Contribute to overall store conditions ensuring safety and sanitation.
