The Bakery Lead is responsible for the overall performance of the bakery department when the AM manager is not working, including supervising and training team members, maintaining operational standards, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • High school education, or equivalent.
  • Basic bakery knowledge.
  • Basic computer skills (word, excel, outlook).
  • Managerial skills.
  • At least 1 year experience in retail sales and management experience.
  • Must be able to be relocated to a store within 20 miles from home depending on the needs of the business.
  • Health department training required.
  • Department Manager Training.
  • Sexual Harassment Prevention/Respect Values Training/Boss to Coach/Leading Through People.
  • Issue Free Training.
  • Be able to compose and write reports, departmental memos, business correspondence, "menus", and customer display signs or sales suggestions.
  • Be knowledgeable and familiar with the nature and duties of every staff position in the department including procedures, policies and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times and observe company dress regulations; enforce grooming standards throughout the department; must wear an approved hat or hair net and clean uniform while in the department and make sure all personnel in the bakery department does the same.
  • Responsible for the overall performance of the bakery department when the AM manager is not working.
  • Maintain good communications with superiors and subordinates throughout the store.
  • Direct and supervise team members in the absence of the bakery manager.
  • Perform all the duties and job functions of an experience baker or cake decorator.
  • Assist in supervising and training other Bakery Department personnel.
  • Maintain good communications in the department and throughout the organization.
  • Notify manager of personnel situations or policy violations having an adverse effect on store operating performance or of situations requiring disciplinary action or that may potentially require such action.
  • Perform any other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance.
  • Effectively supervise other bakery department personnel and train all new employees.
  • Must assure that company values are practiced and taught.
  • Must demonstrate managerial courage.
  • Be able to hear, speak and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, to answer telephones, and to be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers and customers.
  • Comply with all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations.
  • Comply with all state, county and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements.
  • Follow approved procedures for receiving product, price marking and restocking to ensure quality protection, accuracy and product rotation.
  • Check and verify bakery department receiving to ensure that items listed on vendor invoices are all delivered; check product for quality, count or weight, and condition.
  • Take products to preparation or storage area including refrigerated storage boxes.
  • Control department expenses and utilize energy conservation practice.
  • Assist in ordering and maintain inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality and turnover for maximum sales and to minimize out-of-stocks or overstocks.
  • Follow opening and closing bakery department procedures.
  • Prepare reports (orders, purchases and sales shrink, processing invoices).
  • Follow all inventory control procedures to maximize product freshness, quality, turnover, and availability for maximum sales.
  • Be familiar with invoice documents and confirm accuracy of item descriptions, sizes, quantities and pricing during department product deliveries; record invoice documents accurately on the receiving log and place signed invoices in the designated secured area.
  • Follow approved bakery department plans for effective space management based on product movement, consumer demand and profitability.
  • Keep displays fully stocked and attractively merchandised at all times according to tag allocation, product movement or department standards; sign and display merchandise in a neat manner.
  • Keep perishable merchandise rotated in accordance with store policy and product code dates and pull all out-of-code merchandise.
  • Observe local competitive activity pertaining to the bakery department and keep others informed.
  • Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with store policy and state and local health regulations on a regular, ongoing basis.
  • Follow planned program of maintenance on cases, back-room coolers, ovens and other bakery department equipment.
  • Check refrigeration and baking equipment for proper performance a minimum of one time per shift.
  • Use and maintain equipment in good working order.
  • Immediately advise department manager of any maintenance or equipment problems.
  • Take action to control shrinkage and pilferage losses; observe security standards by staying alert and aware of customer actions and behavior; report to store manager or security any abnormal behavior.
  • Ability to hear, speak and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, to answer telephones, and to be able to communicate effectively with coworkers and customers.
  • Be able to compose and write reports, departmental memos, business correspondence, "menus", and customer display signs or sales suggestions.
  • Be knowledgeable and familiar with the nature and duties of every staff position in the department including procedures, policies and operations.
  • Must assure completion of safety observations, and Axonify.
  • Must comply with company compliance initiatives, (example: Production planning)
  • Must assure that all bakery personnel use safety equipment required (example: PPE)
  • The associate must occasionally exert of lift up to 70 pounds carrying boxes of records and forms and frequently exert or lift moderate amounts of weight.
