About The Position

Summary: The Bakery Counter Clerk is responsible for providing excellent customer service while packaging, labelling, and stocking baked goods. This position supports the bakery department by maintaining clean displays, rotating fresh items, and ensuring product availability throughout the day. Responsibilities: Customer Service: Greet customers promptly and courteously at the bakery counter while maintaining a professional and positive demeanor during all interactions. Assist customers with product selection, answer questions, and provide informed recommendations. Department Operational Support: Stock and rotate products in the display cases with fresh, pre-packaged, and self-serve baked goods. Operate baking equipment safely and in accordance with food safety standards. Ensure proper packaging, labeling, and merchandising of baked items such as breads, rolls, pastries, cakes, and cookies. Support basic product prep such as slicing bread or portioning baked items as approved. Inventory and Stocking: Receive and properly store bakery products and supplies. Monitor product availability and request restocks when necessary to management. Follow First In, First Out (FIFO) procedures to ensure freshness and minimize waste. Maintain organized bakery displays, coolers, freezers, and dry storage areas. Food Safety and Sanitation: Adhere to all health department regulations and company food safety policies. Clean and sanitize all equipment, tools, and surfaces regularly. Use approved cleaning supplies and ensure proper storage of chemicals. Report any safety, sanitation, or maintenance issues to management in a timely manner. Work will primarily be performed in a retail environment. Work will be performed both inside (temperature-controlled environments i.e. refrigerator/freezer) and outside on a regular basis, in most weather conditions, Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts are required as a normal part of this position. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk extended periods. The employee occasionally is required to bend, climb, stoop, lift, carry, push, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 25 and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

  • Certification in food safety or sanitation (e.g., ServSafe, Food Handlers Card) or attained within 30 days of hire.
  • Flexibility in work schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • A satisfactory result obtained through a test for illegal drugs is a requirement of employment.
  • Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a drug-free workplace as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Reading, writing, basic math, and verbal communication skills.
  • 6 months of experience working in a food service or customer service role.
  • Computer skills in the use of POS equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Gila River Indian Community or other Native American Communities.
