About The Position

The Bakery Cake Designer at Hy-Vee is responsible for decorating bakery items and assisting customers with their bakery orders both over the phone and in person. This role is crucial in ensuring a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service. The designer will work closely with the bakery team to meet customer needs and maintain department standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to file, post, and mail materials.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and learns their names.
• Assists customers in locating products and loading heavy items.
• Answers the telephone promptly and takes product orders.
• Takes customer orders at the Bakery counter.
• Checks orders for the day and sets up a timeline and production schedule.
• Decorates bakery items in a timely manner.
• Keeps current on new designs and trends.
• Checks cake orders for details and indicates supply needs.
• Orders supplies for decorating area.
• Delivers product and sets up wedding cakes on site.
• Communicates with bakery manager regarding displays and special needs.
• Tracks daily retail production and identifies tasks to be completed.
• Operates as a lead worker with part-time or other employees.
• Participates in employee cross training.
• Practices proper sanitation procedures and maintains a clean work area.
• Wraps products as necessary and assists in other areas of the store.
