The Bakery Cake Designer is responsible for decorating bakery items and assisting customers with their bakery orders both by telephone and in person at the store. This role ensures a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.
  • Makes an effort to learn customers' names and address them by name whenever possible.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing products that are out of reach, and loading or unloading heavy items.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
  • Takes customer orders at the Bakery counter.
  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Checks orders for the day and sets up a timeline and production schedule.
  • Decorates bakery items in a timely manner.
  • Keeps current on new designs and trends.
  • Ensures department standards are met.
  • Checks cake orders for details and indicates supply needs.
  • Orders supplies for decorating area and checks off the order.
  • Delivers product and sets up wedding cakes on site.
  • Communicates with bakery manager regarding displays, weekly ads, and special needs.
  • Checks product dates, pulls cases for work, and lists items to fill or replace.
  • Develops bakery orders for bakers on a daily basis.
  • Tracks daily retail production.
  • Identifies tasks to be completed with co-workers.
  • Operates as a lead worker with part-time or other employees.
  • Participates in employee cross training.
  • Understands and practices proper sanitation procedures.
  • Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High school or equivalent experience.
  • Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another.
