About the position
The Bakery Cake Designer at Hy-Vee is responsible for decorating bakery items and assisting customers with their bakery orders both over the phone and in person. This role is crucial in ensuring a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members. The position requires a commitment to customer satisfaction and teamwork, as well as adherence to company policies and sanitation procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
- Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
- Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, and loading or unloading heavy items.
- Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly service to customers, including taking product orders.
- Takes customer orders at the Bakery counter.
- Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Checks orders for the day and sets up a timeline and production schedule.
- Decorates bakery items in a timely manner and keeps current on new designs and trends.
- Ensures department standards are met and checks cake orders for details.
- Orders supplies for decorating area and checks off the order.
- Delivers product and sets up wedding cakes on site.
- Communicates with bakery manager regarding displays, weekly ads, and special needs.
- Checks product dates and pulls cases for work.
- Develops bakery orders for bakers on a daily basis.
- Tracks daily retail production and identifies tasks to be completed.
- Operates as a lead worker with part-time or other employees.
- Participates in employee cross training.
- Practices proper sanitation procedures and ensures the work area is clean and neat.
- Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.
- Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another.
