About The Position

As a Bakery Assistant, you’ll play a key role in producing a wide variety of breads, pastries, and other baked goods, ensuring they are prepared to the highest quality standards and ready for service. This role involves creative collaboration with the Pastry Chef on plated desserts and buffet offerings, as well as precise execution of recipes and banquet event orders (BEOs). Requirements

  • Comfortable with daily routines and repetitive tasks.
  • Strong time management skills—you stay on schedule and meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
  • Physically capable of standing and walking for extended periods, as well as reaching, bending, and using stairs.
  • Basic reading and writing skills—able to understand safety labels and complete brief reports.
  • Ability to meet performance and skill expectations based on your cook level (I, II, or III).
  • High school diploma or GED preferred, or at least one (1) year of equivalent kitchen experience.
  • A valid driver’s license may be required for certain roles involving company vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare a broad range of breads, pastries, and baked goods according to established recipes and production standards.
  • Measure, weigh, and mix ingredients to produce doughs and batters with accuracy and consistency.
  • Portion and place dough into pans, molds, or onto baking sheets and bake items using appropriate oven settings.
  • Monitor products throughout the baking process and adjust temperature, timing, or techniques as needed.
  • Prepare icings, glazes, and toppings, and decorate cakes, pastries, and other baked goods.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of baking and kitchen equipment, including mixers, ovens, rolling pins, and cutting tools.
  • Execute production based on BEOs, ensuring items are prepared in the correct quantities, meet quality standards, and are ready for service.
  • Collaborate with the Pastry Chef to develop new recipes, plated desserts, and buffet selections as needed.
  • Maintain control over mixing processes and oven operations to ensure consistency and product quality.
  • Safely handle and transport ingredients, tools, and hot baking equipment.
  • Follow recipes precisely or contribute creatively by developing and implementing new baked products.
