About the position

The Baker at Hy-Vee is responsible for baking products for customer orders and replenishing displays while providing exceptional customer service. This role emphasizes maintaining a positive company image and ensuring customer satisfaction through friendly interactions and efficient service. The Baker will also oversee the production schedule, manage inventory, and ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, loading/unloading heavy items, and addressing customer suggestions or requests.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides helpful service, including taking product orders.
  • Checks orders for the day and sets up a timeline and production schedule.
  • Prepares, bakes, and fries all department products as needed.
  • Reviews product status for freshness and pulls stale items.
  • Invoices and puts away product as instructed by the department manager.
  • Anticipates product needs for the current and subsequent days.
  • Inspects incoming product quality and quantity.
  • Understands and follows up on bakery equipment maintenance issues.
  • Checks signage for correct labels on ad items and reviews department for safety issues.
  • Operates as a lead with bakery clerks and prioritizes orders as per requests.
  • Proofs necessary items and pulls product from the freezer or cooler.
  • Practices proper sanitation procedures and maintains a clean work area.
  • Adheres to company policies and reports to work on time.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Over six months to one year of similar or related experience.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to copy data and provide basic direction.
