Position Summary: The Baker 3 team member is a lead-level position on the Bake team with expanded experience, skills, and responsibilities beyond those of Baker 1 and Baker 2. The Bake team’s goal is to produce high-quality inclusions and variegates efficiently and accurately for use in Salt & Straw’s ice cream. The Baker 3 plays a key role in upholding our highest standards of product quality. This role assists with daily production planning, provides leadership on the floor, and helps allocate projects based on complexity and team skillsets to maintain safety, efficiency, and consistency. Baker 3 team members also act as a technical resource for the team, advising on methods, troubleshooting issues, and supporting junior team members throughout the shift. Success in this role is achieved through strong process knowledge, a positive attitude, and the ability to guide and support others in meeting daily production goals safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years working in commercial food preparation
  • Minimum 1 year baking experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise recipes and instructions
  • Good counting and math skills for measuring, scaling, and portioning
  • Able to work efficiently and stay organized in a fast-paced production environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to bring hospitality into all interactions
  • Able to work effectively with people of all backgrounds and identities
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing facility and coordinating tasks across teams
  • Ability to coach, guide, and motivate team members during daily production
  • Ability to uphold high standards of food safety, sanitation, product quality, and efficiency
  • Ability to follow detailed recipe specifications from R&D and adjust processes as needed
  • Proficient operating a wide range of commercial kitchen and baking equipment
  • Reliable, consistent, and able to model adherence to SOPs, safety expectations, and production procedures
  • Fluency in English

Responsibilities

  • Review the daily production schedule and work orders to help plan the day, reprioritize tasks, and assign projects based on team skillsets
  • Lead and support the Bake team throughout the shift to meet production goals safely, cleanly, and efficiently
  • Follow recipe specifications accurately, including weighing ingredients, sequencing steps, and using the appropriate equipment
  • Provide hands-on guidance during production, demonstrating proper methods and workflow to ensure high-quality, consistent outputs
  • Observe and evaluate products—from raw ingredients to finished inclusions—to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) across the Bake Team by monitoring organization and sanitation and correcting deviations as needed
  • Monitor production flow, identify basic efficiency or ergonomic concerns, and adjust tasks or escalate as appropriate
  • Ensure ingredients, tools, and equipment are ready, available, and clean at the start of each project
  • Monitor ingredient organization, labeling, and storage to support accuracy, traceability, and production readiness
  • Communicate clearly with team members about ingredient status, lot codes, expiration dates, and any issues that impact production
  • Train and retrain team members on equipment operation, production methods, organization, and safety best practices
  • Reinforce and communicate new policies and procedures to team members to ensure consistency
  • Promptly communicate personnel or production issues (resolved or unresolved) to the Bake Supervisor
  • Ensure that all team members receive timely rest breaks and meal periods in accordance with company policy
  • Serve as backup to the Supervisor when needed
  • Accurately enter production completion and quantities into NetSuite, verifying amounts and work order numbers to support inventory and reporting accuracy
