About The Position

The Badger Precollege Program Manager position will provide broad support and oversight to residential programs for Badger Precollege within the Division of Continuing Studies. Their main focus will be focused tasks related to the operational and academic planning of residential programs for international and domestic students. Reporting to the Associate Director of Operations of Badger Precollege, they will also support general team projects and precollege initiatives. The Program Manager works closely with the Badger Precollege team to support short-term and long-term program planning, logistics, and evaluation; managing program registration processes and academic course set up; and ensuring compliance with UW-Madison and Youth Protection policies. Over the summer, this position will manage day to day logistics related to the interaction between residential and academic processes coordinating across teams and staff. Additionally, they will serve as an on-call resource to seasonal program staff during programming. Current DCS precollege programs are in session from mid-June through early August. Applicants must be willing and able to work extended hours during programming. This includes working some evenings and weekends when programs are running. They may also be required to drive university within the bounds of university work. Current DCS precollege programs are in session from mid-June through early August. All staff are required to work in person during this period. There are also a few extended commitments throughout the year. This is a 2-year position, with the possibility of converting to a renewable position in the future if funding permits.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in a student support setting
  • 2 years of experience in program management, with a strong background in organizational planning, project coordination, and the effective use of technical tools
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team while independently managing projects under general supervision.
  • Have a flexible working style and strong work ethic with the ability to adapt to the shifting demands and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated clear and professional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with various audiences.
  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree. A 2-year degree with exceptional experience may also be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 experience working with precollege or other youth programs for middle and/or high school students
  • 2 years of experience supporting middle and/or high school students or programming.
  • Experience designing and/or implementing advanced high school or college level curriculum (College-level course design, AP, etc)
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and Badger Precollege unit objectives
  • Advise divisional leadership on pre-college program services and student needs
  • Monitor and organize pre-college program budget
  • Coordinate opening and closing day processes in collaboration with other Badger Precollege staff
  • Serve on an overnight on-call rotation with other program staff during residential programming (mid-June through early August)
  • Develop training events and initiatives as needed to ensure all staff are trained per UW compliance policies
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and support to seasonal and temporary program staff, including instructional staff, residential staff, and administrative assistants
  • Manage student requests for accommodations or other program needs
  • Manage student application documentation and program admission processes, including general program and confidential student information
  • Read and evaluate student program applications; collaborate with admission committee as needed
  • Advise students and their families on the application and enrollment processes
  • Oversee the development and evaluation of program curricula, workshops, activities, and educational materials to ensure alignment with learning objectives and student development goals
  • Develop college preparatory workshop series in collaboration with other Badger Precollege staff
  • Assess program effectiveness and develop action plans for improvement in partnership with the broader Badger Precollege team
  • Create updated resources and materials, including guides, handbooks, certificates, evaluation tools, and other program documentation
  • Hire and supervise seasonal staff, manage discipline plans, respond to program issues as the primary on-call professional in case of any emergencies, and coordinate the opening and closing day procedures
  • Facilitate communication between academic and residential program staff to ensure seamless operations
  • Oversee class management and curriculum-building tools within the learning management system (Canvas) and Google Suite
  • Promote, establish, and maintain internal and external partnerships, including academic departments, schools/colleges, community organizations, and K–12 partners.
  • Work with campus partners such as health services, conference services, and dining to ensure smooth coordination of university services for students.
  • Represent precollege programs at campus events, recruitment activities, community engagement initiatives, and institutional working groups.
  • Collaborate closely with instructors, student services units, residential staff, and operational partners to support seamless program delivery.
  • Serve on Badger Precollege residential, academic, and development committees
  • Develop and maintain respectful working relationships as well as promote DCS precollege programs and its programs to build greater access, visibility, and value.
  • Support efforts of Badger Precollege to ensure a safe environment for students and faculty of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • May support development of new program initiatives, including support with establishing programs
  • Pursue professional development activities to enhance performance and professional skills.
  • Evaluate programming and create future action plans in collaboration with the larger Badger Precollege team.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Oversees Badger Precollege academic programs and unit operations, including program development, marketing, participant support, and strategic collaboration on enrollment initiatives and partnerships
