About The Position

An oilfield backhoe operator primarily digs trenches, moves earth, and prepares sites, but also performs crucial safety checks, routine maintenance (like greasing/fueling), reads plans, and coordinates with the crew to handle excavation, backfilling, and general site prep for oil and gas operations, ensuring all work meets safety standards while keeping the machinery running. Core Operation Duties Excavation & Grading: Digging trenches, foundations, holes, and leveling ground. Material Handling: Loading, moving, and dumping dirt, gravel, rock, and other materials. Site Prep: Clearing and preparing work areas, often assisting with demolition. Coordination: Following hand/audio signals from crew and aligning machine actions with other site activities. Safety & Maintenance Duties Pre-Operation Checks: Inspecting the backhoe for defects, checking fuel/lubricant levels, and ensuring safety devices work. Hazard Avoidance: Identifying and avoiding underground utilities (pipes, wires) and other obstructions. Routine Maintenance: Performing daily greasing, minor servicing, and cleaning of the machine. Reporting: Alerting supervisors to significant problems and completing inspection sheets. Project & Team Duties Plan Interpretation: Reading blueprints and project plans to guide work. Record Keeping: Logging material usage and equipment issues. Teamwork: Assisting other workers and supporting overall job completion. Compliance: Adhering to strict health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.
