About the position
Wing is looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our Commerce Engineering team. This is a hybrid role based in Palo Alto, CA. In Commerce, our mission is to get Wings drone delivery into the hands of partners and customers. Our team builds APIs and tools, enabling Wing drone delivery for businesses. We build safe, reliable, and scalable systems, with a detail oriented mindset, delivering a customer first experience. This position seeks highly-motivated individuals who enjoy working in a highly dynamic and collaborative team environment. The successful candidate is able to demonstrate full project ownership, from strong backend software design to fast paced implementation following industry best practices. We're looking for people who are intrinsically driven to collaborate on hard problems, drive simple solutions, and take pride in their work.
Responsibilities
- Design and build solutions that utilize asynchronous pipelines, database systems, RPC handlers in collaboration with frontend engineers and backend engineers, in a privacy and security conscious ecosystem
- Collaborate cross functionally with product managers, and program managers to design, implement and quickly launch new features for partners and end consumers
- Mitigate, root cause and resolve urgent, time sensitive issues, in both familiar and unfamiliar software, as part of an on-call rotation, or other escalations
- Contribute to team culture of support, engagement and quality, ensuring Wing can scale as a business
Requirements
- A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar degree (or equivalent experience)
- 1-6 years of experience designing and developing backend software
- Excellent written and verbal skills and experience working in a collaborative team
- Ability to identify challenging problems and potential solutions with guidance from a mentor, and work toward them with a high degree of independence
- Experience developing backend systems involving database schema design, and synchronous/asynchronous systems
- Experience developing in C++, or ability to quickly pick up C++ with experience in languages such as Java, Python or Go
