About The Position

We are looking for a highly skilled Backend Engineer to design and build scalable, secure, and privacy-aware systems for healthcare data. This role focuses on processing diverse data sources—from wearable signals to clinical records—while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including AI, clinical, and product teams, to enable real-time insights and patient-centered care solutions. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and takes ownership of delivering robust and maintainable backend systems. This role offers the opportunity to directly impact healthcare delivery through innovative technology solutions while working with sensitive health data. You will be involved in architecture, integration, CI/CD pipelines, and mentoring teammates to ensure high-quality, HIPAA-compliant systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience delivering end-to-end software products.
  • Proven experience in full-stack development, including dashboards, admin tools, or data visualizations (React/Next.js, Tailwind).
  • Strong Python backend skills (FastAPI, Flask, Django) and knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, and asynchronous workflows.
  • Solid database experience (PostgreSQL or MySQL) and familiarity with event-streaming systems (Kafka) with enforced data contracts.
  • Competence in testing frameworks (PyTest, Hypothesis, Locust) and observability tooling (metrics, traces, logs).
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerized CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Understanding of security and compliance standards (HIPAA, HITRUST, FDA 510(k)), encryption, and audit evidence generation.
  • Familiarity with HL7 or FHIR interfaces, secure data exchange, and healthcare data standards.
  • Strong programming fundamentals, attention to detail, and a passion for writing maintainable, testable code.
  • Ability to adapt, learn quickly, and work collaboratively across teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Java, Rust, or other JVM-based languages is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable backend services for ingesting, transforming, and persisting health data from wearables, EHRs, and user inputs.
  • Build APIs and data pipelines for both real-time and batch processing, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance.
  • Integrate with external systems and protocols such as FHIR APIs, BLE devices, Apple HealthKit, and Google Fit.
  • Ensure backend systems are reliable, highly available, and low-latency for real-time clinical decision support.
  • Collaborate with security, compliance, product, and AI teams to align technical capabilities with clinical workflows.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling, and data quality monitoring.
  • Mentor engineering teammates on secure coding practices, data access, and best practices.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and performance-based incentives.
  • Flexible work arrangements and supportive work environment.
  • Comprehensive healthcare and wellness benefits.
  • Paid time off, company holidays, and flexible schedules.
  • Professional development, training, and certifications.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge healthcare technology impacting patient outcomes.
