Backend Engineer (Rust Expertise)
About The Position
We are seeking a Member of Technical Staff with a strong background in systems and backend engineering, with a particular emphasis on Rust. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working close to the metal, cares deeply about performance and correctness, and wants to build production-grade systems that scale. You’ll work alongside a deeply technical team—including experts in compiler development and applied machine learning—while contributing to core backend infrastructure and open-source projects. The role offers both depth in systems engineering and flexibility to expand into new technical areas over time.
Requirements
- Strong experience in Rust or comparable systems languages (with demonstrated Rust proficiency)
- Background in systems, backend, or infrastructure engineering
- Solid understanding of concurrency, async programming, and performance tradeoffs
- Experience shipping and operating production systems
- Ability to reason about complex systems and drive work independently
- Curiosity and willingness to learn new tools, languages, and domains
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain high-performance backend systems in Rust
- Own critical infrastructure components with a focus on reliability, correctness, and efficiency
- Make architectural decisions around concurrency, memory management, and system boundaries
- Collaborate with ML and application engineers to support production workloads
- Contribute to and maintain open-source Rust projects and internal libraries
- Profile, benchmark, and optimize systems for latency, throughput, and resource usage
- Set and uphold high standards for code quality, testing, and documentation
