Role Overview: We’re looking for a talented BACKEND ENGINEER I to join our small, energetic engineering team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, has a strong foundation in software development principles, and is eager to grow their technical skills while contributing to innovative backend projects that drive business success and improve health outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • HS Diploma required
  • 2-4 years professional experience with team-based development
  • Experience with modern PHP (8+) required
  • Understanding of software engineering best practices such as testability and object-oriented design with the ability to incorporate these into technical solutions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a PHP framework (e.g. Symfony or Laravel), Doctrine DBAL/ORM, and SQL is preferred
  • Experience in healthcare industry is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work in a small, tight-knit, empowered team to build and deploy cloud-based backend APIs and services for Ovia's mobile applications to deliver a solution that provides daily personalized health support for women and families
  • Participate in code reviews in a way that deepens team knowledge and improves our technology
  • Communicate progress, risks, and technical decisions clearly across the development lifecycle
