About The Position

Maintain security of a juvenile detention facility by visual observation and physical control of entrances and exits in order to ensure the safety and security of residents and staff. The deputy court administrator of family court is the appointing authority. The control room clerk receives direct supervision by the facility supervisor assigned to the unit. ( The following duties are representative of the position and do not include all duties which may be performed.) Control access in and out of the detention facility. Carefully screen all people requesting access to the detention facility and log their visits. Operate and monitor cameras and intercom system for activity in and around the facility. Collect, log and securely store juvenile property. Oversee and coordinate juvenile visitation procedures. Track court dockets and ensure juveniles are prepared to appear in court. Communicate with staff via telephone, intercom, or two-way radios. Enter inquiries and data in law enforcement database system on a federal, state, and local level. Enter and cancel juvenile arrest warrants, wanted records, and information on youth detained and released. Conduct criminal records checks for various agencies and departments. Send, receive, and respond to electronic messages from law enforcement. Enter juvenile information from intake to discharge. Process emergency ex-parte orders at the request of adult abuse shelters. Act as a deputy juvenile officer in their absence for new arrivals in the detention facility. Follow procedures for facility security, such as key, tool and property control. Report needed device and equipment repairs and malfunctions for necessary repairs or replacements. Execute emergency management plans as necessary in the event of a disturbance, or other unforeseen incidents. Perform other duties as required. Work is performed within a secured, or non-secured facility. Subject to youth who are aggressive and volatile and those who have psychiatric, or other needs. Work mandatory overtime as required.

Requirements

  • Basic computer procedures and word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good typing and alpha-numeric data entry skills.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 35 wpm.
  • Ability to provide effective customer service.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, in a tactful and courteous manner with diverse parties.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum age requirement is 25 years old.
  • Applicants for this position are subject to certification requirements for access to law enforcement databases, which includes fingerprinting for criminal records checks on a federal, state, and local level.
  • All candidates selected for employment will be subject to background screenings as part of the hiring process.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in law enforcement, corrections, or security-related field is preferred.
  • Some work experience involving personal computer operation.
