About The Position

As the Back of House Manager, you are the strength of our operation, setting the stage for exceptional service and operational excellence. The Back of House (BOH) Restaurant Manager is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations, ensuring food quality, safety, and efficiency. This role manages kitchen staff, controls costs, maintains inventory, and ensures compliance with health regulations while supporting a smooth collaboration between front and back of house teams.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a similar role within a restaurant/tavern environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills to handle a variety of tasks during service.

Nice To Haves

  • ServSafe Certification is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily kitchen operations to ensure timely and consistent food preparation
  • Maintain high standards for food quality, presentation, and portion control
  • Ensure all recipes and procedures are followed accurately
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise kitchen staff (chefs, line cooks, prep cooks, dishwashers)
  • Monitor performance and provide coaching, feedback, and discipline when necessary
  • Foster a positive, efficient, and team-oriented work environment
  • Ensure compliance with all local health department regulations and food safety standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and storage areas
  • Conduct regular safety and sanitation inspections
  • Manage inventory levels, ordering, and vendor relationships
  • Control food costs, waste, and shrinkage
  • Track and analyze kitchen expenses and labor costs
  • Collaborate with chefs or ownership on menu development and updates
  • Ensure consistency in taste, portioning, and plating
  • Monitor customer feedback related to food quality
  • Work closely with Front of House (FOH) managers to ensure smooth service
  • Address service issues quickly and effectively
  • Communicate changes in menu items, availability, or procedures
  • Oversee kitchen operations during service
  • Ensure food is prepared to standard and in a timely manner
  • Manage ticket flow and communication with FOH
  • Train and support BOH staff
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen
  • Support FOH as needed
