About The Position

Shape the future of American rail Siemens Mobility’s Rolling Stock Division builds the passenger coaches, locomotives, and light rail vehicles that keep cities and communities moving. At our world-class manufacturing facility in Lexington, NC, you’ll apply your inspection expertise to ensure every carshell is built to exacting standards. What a day looks like Monday through Thursday, you’ll start your 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. shift by walking the Carshell welding and BG manufacturing areas. Armed with your Certified Welding Inspector skill set, you’ll:

Requirements

  • Drive to obtain and maintain AWS Certified Visual Weld Inspector (CWI) Associate or VT Level II, plus certification in one or more NDT techniques.
  • Confidence using databases and electronic inspection systems to both consume and record quality data.
  • Ability to travel to Sacramento, California for training—an initial trip of at least two weeks, with additional trips as needed.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Regular reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and talking or hearing; occasional sitting.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs; occasionally lift and/or move 40 lbs or more.
  • Close, distance, and color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine visual CWI checks along with dimensional and mechanical inspections on welded and machined parts and assemblies.
  • Use one or more non-destructive testing methods to verify weld and component acceptability.
  • Confirm work is performed to the correct configuration revision and fully meets drawings, specifications, and guidelines.
  • Conduct first article inspections on parts, assemblies, equipment, and tooling; create concise summary reports and diagnostics.
  • Enter, maintain, and retrieve data from MRP/ERP systems, nonconformance tracking tools, and the configuration management system.
