About The Position

The AWE (Aging with Empowerment) Specialist role at St. Louis Arc is designed to empower older adults with disabilities to lead active and fulfilling lives. This full-time position involves engaging participants in community activities, assisting with personal care, and supporting their independence and self-esteem. The specialist will work closely with individuals to plan meaningful daily activities and ensure their needs are met, all while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21 years old with three years of driving experience.
  • One or more years of experience supporting individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, preferably with geriatrics.
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience, such as knowledge of best practices for supporting people with developmental disabilities.
  • Reliable vehicle (4 seat belts and working heating/cooling) and valid driver's license and auto insurance at time of hire.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs from floor to shoulder and walk and/or stand for extended periods of time (up to 6 hours).
  • Ability to multitask and make decisions independently.

Responsibilities

  • Empower older adults with disabilities to live the active life of their choosing.
  • Teach skills that increase adults' independence, self-esteem, and participation in the community.
  • Assist one to four adult participants in planning a meaningful day that matches their interests and goals.
  • Engage in activities out in the community and at the Day Center.
  • Transport individuals to and from activities in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
  • Assist participants with personal care, including restroom, meals, and dressing.
  • Maintain an understanding of participants' Individual Support Plans and implementation practices.
  • Complete community events reports, medication administration records, progress notes, and other required documentation.
