About The Position

The Awake Overnight Supervisor directly supervises overnight residential staff; oversee running of residential program for children with emotional, behavioral and learning disabilities. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for residential students during the overnight hours; perform light household responsibilities including light cleaning and laundry. Committed to child centered, family focused culturally competent care and strength based treatment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • At least one year of prior experience working with children who have emotional and behavior problems, successful completion of Walker’s Direct Care Counselor evaluation.
  • Must be receptive and responsive to supervision and professional development.
  • Must be able to understand, apply and model principles taught in trainings and seminars to the milieu, including therapeutic crisis intervention skills.
  • Must be able to be flexible and work collaboratively.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must understand issues of confidentiality.
  • Ability to move freely without restrictions, upstairs, do light cleaning and laundry.
  • Ability to work and stand for extended periods.
  • Requires bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting.
  • Requires energy and stamina.
  • Requires the ability to perform therapeutic physical intervention.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates or Undergraduate Degree in a related field
  • Experience working with youth in residential or human services settings, with some supervisory or leadership responsibilities, preferred
  • At least two years of experience working with children who have emotional and behavioral problems.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a leader in a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children at Walker.
  • Oversee the day to day running of Walker’s campus during overnight hours.
  • Complete overnight supervisory rounds of the residential campus to ensure Direct Care Counselors remain awake, fulfill assigned responsibilities, and consistently complete required 15-minute checks.
  • Maintain oversight of the overnight staffing schedule by monitoring punctuality, verifying staff presence on assigned units, and implementing necessary schedule edits to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Directly supervise staff, including supervision sessions, staff evaluations, training, etc.
  • Facilitate weekly overnight staff check-ins and debriefings to support communication, reinforce policies and procedures, review youth of concern, and provide group supervision to Direct Care Counselors.
  • Attend monthly overnight meetings in person or via online platform.
  • Participate in supervisory meetings, which are held weekly; attendance is required for two meetings per month for this position.
  • Supervise and provide a therapeutic milieu in assigned residences, including managing the daily schedule and ensuring therapeutic recreational programming occurs.
  • Directly manage the performance of assigned direct care counselors, including individual and group supervision and staff evaluations
  • Assist and collaborate with supervisors, including Day and Residential Supervisors, to promote communication, consistency, and collaboration across shifts and programs.
  • Follow Walker’s communication protocols and assist staff in following those protocols.
  • Ensure that administrative functions of assigned residences are properly completed, including oral and written reports, medication administration, and maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Understand, apply, model, and teach Walker’s model of child care, including therapeutic crisis intervention and physical restraint.
  • Provide on-call back-up to residential program as scheduled.
  • Properly attend to administrative functions of supervisory work, including attending, participating, and leading required meetings, completing assigned oral and written report writing tasks; and actively participating in supervision and professional development opportunities offered at Walker.
  • Provide leadership and training to direct care counselors through mentoring in the milieu and leading formal trainings.
  • Work with staff and campus leadership to maintain licensing standards across all units.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
