About The Position

Alternatives, Inc. is seeking a full-time awake overnight Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver in Phillipsburg, NJ, to provide support to adults with developmental disabilities. The role involves ensuring the comfort and safety of clients in a residential group home, assisting with daily living activities, implementing individual behavioral plans, teaching new skills, and facilitating community integration. Alternatives, Inc. has over 40 years of experience providing support services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental illnesses, focusing on residential, behavior support, support coordination, and recreation services. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks and a drug screen
  • Clear tuberculosis (TB) screening
  • Ability to pass and maintain required trainings such as CPR/first aid, medication administration, and positive behavioral support training
  • Basic computer skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
  • Want to make a difference

Responsibilities

  • Support adults with developmental disabilities
  • Ensure the comfort and safety of each client
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living such as administering medication, cooking meals, performing personal hygiene, and transportation to medical appointments
  • Assist in the implementation of individual behavioral plans
  • Teach new skills and help clients achieve goals using effective teaching and mentoring techniques
  • Encourage clients' interests and drive them to community outings and recreational activities based on their preferences and behavioral plans
  • Report any concerns about clients' health and safety
  • Keep documentation accurate and up-to-date
