The Sacramento Crisis Nursery is a family-strengthening program, where parents can bring their children ages 0-5 to one of two Sacramento nurseries for emergency childcare services or overnight care during difficult times. Our mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing support to families in times of crisis.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • Completion of 12 postsecondary semester units or equivalent quarter units, with a passing grade, in classes with a focus on early childhood education, child development, or child health at an accredited college or university is required for Child Care Worker I.
  • Completion of 9 postsecondary semester units or equivalent quarter units, with a passing grade, in classes with a focus on early childhood education, child development, or child health at an accredited college or university and six months of work experience in a licensed group home, licensed infant care center, or comparable group child care program or family day care is required for Child Care Worker I.
  • Six months or more of work experience in a licensed group home, licensed infant care center, or comparable licensed group childcare program is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with infants and children up to age 5 is preferred.
  • Driving is an essential function of this job; a valid driver’s license and minimum insurance coverage is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideal candidates will possess an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Behavioral Science, Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a related behavioral health/social services degree.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of the children at all times.
  • Provide supervision, protection and care of children individually and in groups at all times.
  • Complete appropriate bed checks to assure the well-being of the children consistent with need and agency and program standards.
  • Attend to all childcare needs, including but not limited to diaper changes, bathing, feeding, one-on-one interaction, discipline, etc.
  • Remain alert to physical and/or emotional changes in infants or children indicating the onset of illness and report any significant changes to the Awake Lead Childcare Worker.
  • Administer medication and treatment following accurate dosage and times as prescribed or recorded in the children’s charts.
  • Interact with and perform intakes and discharges with children and families in a positive and respectful manner.
  • Administer positive discipline, child guidance systems, crisis intervention techniques, and limit setting.
  • Immediately communicate any unusual situations to Awake Lead Childcare Worker and support any problem-solving plans.
  • Notate child's progress, identification of the possible need for professional services, and communication of such findings to Awake Lead Childcare Worker.
  • Apply crisis intervention techniques to ensure the safety of children and staff.
  • Complete all household tasks, including but not limited to, cleaning, disinfecting, meal preparation, stocking supplies, laundry, vacuuming, mopping, organizing and inventory.
  • Check charts for complete information and follow orders given therein.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff and volunteers.
  • Follow the directives of the Awake Lead Childcare Workers.
  • Review and complete written documentation per program requirements, and in compliance with agency policy and CCL regulations.
  • Attend training sessions as necessary, in accordance with agency and State regulations.
  • Constantly monitor and maintain the cleanliness and safety of the interior and exterior of the Nursery, in accordance with program and Title 22 regulations.
  • Provide transportation for parents and children when needed.
  • Once Lead qualified will cover for Lead and Lead Awake Childcare workers as directed by the supervisor and/manager to benefit services.
  • Attend weekly mandatory site meetings and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
