Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC), a division of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, is recruiting for an AVTEC Instructor who will be responsible for planning, developing, and delivering instruction in the Diesel and Applied Technology programs as a Diesel Instructor. Duties will include learning, maintaining and developing program curriculum; designing, building, and maintaining the practical industry-based labs and shop areas; facilitating program advisory board meetings; and maintaining student training records. The Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC) trains Alaskans for work in the trades. Our motto is "start a career in less than a year" and the mission is to deliver flexible, accessible and affordable workforce training that is responsive to the dynamic needs of business and industry and service Alaska's diverse communities. The mission is realized through our day to day operations where staff and instructors collaborate to ensure the success of AVTEC students in completing training and securing employment post training. We live by and model the core values of professionalism, respect, accountability, citizenship, and inclusion in all we do to help Alaskans gain skills, secure employment, and succeed in life. The greatest benefit of being an instructor at AVTEC is that you will see how your work changes the lives of students enrolled in training by preparing them to be accomplished and skilled individuals ready to work in less than one year. In this position, you will use your teaching and curriculum development skills to help students gain knowledge and build competencies in new areas. As a member of the staff at a division of the State of Alaska, you are employed by the State of Alaska and as such are offered paid leave accrual, retirement and health benefits. The nature of the calendar year at AVTEC provides opportunity to travel to remote locations to bring training to Alaskans. You and your dependents have access to AVTEC recreational facilities and AVTEC tuition waivers are available for your dependents for training. AVTEC is located in Seward, a small and friendly community situated at the head of Resurrection Bay, surrounded by mountains. Amenities like coffee shops, retails stores, and restaurants are all within walking distance from any AVTEC campus and beautiful nature trails and a great walking/bike path is just steps away from the office door. The working environment and culture is friendly, flexible, and supportive and we believe in a healthy work/life balance and provide opportunity to pursue that daily.
