Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an AVSI Flight Systems Engineering Section Manager 2 to direct a systems engineering team within the Flight Systems Department of the Aerospace Vehicle and Systems Integration (AVSI) directorate. This position requires the candidate to be 100% on-site in Manhattan Beach, CA. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

  • Provide people leadership for a Systems Engineering organization, including performance management, career development, staffing, and merit planning.
  • Support employee development, inclusion, engagement, mentoring, and career development.
  • Provide ownership of and direction of processes used in the functional group.
  • Support staffing and workload forecast; recruiting, sourcing, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Support the Department Manager in requested tasking.
  • Balance overall functional oversight and management of a Systems Engineering group (typically 8-12 engineers) while maintaining a technical baseline of performance on program work.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) with 8 years of related experience.
  • Experience managing people preferred.
  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope.
  • Must have an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time.
  • Minimum 3 years of direct Systems Engineering experience (requirements, integration, architecture, and/or verification).
  • Existing technical scope of work within Systems Engineering on the Sentinel Program.
  • Minimum 3 years of direct Systems Engineering experience (requirements, integration, architecture, and/or verification).
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid understanding of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and philosophy.
  • 3+ years experience leading teams in a functional, programmatic or technical capacity.
  • Knowledge of mechanical/electrical design principles.
  • Knowledge of requirements derivation processes.
  • Knowledge of systems integration methods and documentation.
  • Knowledge of systems architecture theory and models.
  • Experience with Cameo.
  • Experience with DOORs.
  • 3 years of experience with ICBM Weapon System.
  • Experience using Siemens NX CAD Tool.
  • Active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance.
