The Assistant Vice President - Underwriting will be responsible for engaging brokers to develop business submission opportunities. Meet with brokers and policyholders to present terms and address service opportunities, work with the Underwriting team to develop pricing on individual accounts, manage final audits, manage billing with brokers and policyholders, complete retrospective rating adjustments and present those results to brokers and policyholders, and work with the underwriting team to manage submission data. A key expectation of this role involves using data-driven customer sourcing and evaluation techniques to generate sustainable revenue and profit. The AVP of Underwriting must be a team player and exhibit expertise in workers compensation, must consistently exercise good judgment and be familiar with loss sensitive plans. The ideal candidate will have experience in strategic planning, product ownership, business operations, data analytics, underwriting decision-making and business development. Experience in California workers compensation insurance a definite plus. The Assistant Vice President – Product & Underwriting will: Operate as an independent thought leader with accountability to BERS’ Vice President of Underwriting and BERS’ President. Manage product segment KPIs to ensure achievement of productivity, profit and growth. Conduct analytical research to identify new business and renewal opportunities. Work closely with brokers to sell BERS’ value proposition, work with departmental resources including, Underwriting, Technical Underwriting and Data Science, Actuarial on strategy, regulatory changes, compliance, customer service, workflow and implementation schedules. Demonstrates a professional, courteous attitude with agents. Responds quickly and ethically to all requests/issues. Participate in round table Underwriting meetings to assess opportunities, plans and pricing. Occasionally, we will travel to broker, team and policyholder meetings. Resolves policy audit issues. Determines the appropriate course of action for policy changes, delegating to underwriting and/or processing assistants for handling. Other duties and special projects as assigned.
