About The Position

The position involves managing and developing a team of underwriters while ensuring the accurate and efficient underwriting of profitable books of business that meet annual premium goals. The role requires cultivating a book of business valued between $35-60+ million and collaborating with senior vice presidents and other team leaders on underwriting matters. Responsibilities include signing off on referrals within the applicable authority level and communicating corporate and divisional financial objectives to direct reports. The position also entails working with the Divisional President and Head of E&S Property Underwriting to manage portfolio objectives for both new and renewal business, prioritizing underwriting profitable books of business while meeting plan goals, and fostering broker relationships. The candidate will need to maintain awareness of the insurance market and perform within set timeframes to ensure appropriate response times and customer service for broker partners. Additional duties include drafting quotes and binders, conducting post-binding account changes, maintaining accurate account statuses, and pursuing professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably Risk Management & Insurance major) preferred.
  • 7+ years prior underwriting experience required.
  • E&S Property experience required.
  • Ability to travel (25%).
  • Must be able to work a hybrid schedule (minimum 3 days in office/week).

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate a $35-60+M book of profitable business.
  • Collaborate with SVPs and other team leaders on underwriting matters.
  • Sign off on referrals within applicable authority level.
  • Communicate corporate and divisional financial objectives to direct reports.
  • Collaborate with direct reports to set individual objectives.
  • Respond to referrals in a timely manner.
  • Work with Divisional President and Head of E&S Property Underwriting to manage portfolio objectives for both new and renewal business.
  • Prioritize underwriting profitable book of business while meeting plan goals.
  • Cultivate and foster broker relationships.
  • Proactively expand and maintain awareness of the insurance market.
  • Perform within set timeframes to ensure appropriate response time and customer service for broker partners.
  • Draft quotes and binders.
  • Work with AUW to conduct post-binding account changes/transactions review.
  • Maintain accurate and timely status of accounts throughout the underwriting life cycle.
  • Pursue professional development and training for product knowledge and skills.
  • Responsible for effective operation of internal controls and timely closure of Internal Audit actions.
  • Undertake general office administrative duties as required.
