About The Position

The Assistant Vice President of Sales and Distribution is responsible for the strategic direction, execution, and performance of the company’s sales, distribution, and member operation strategies across all channels, with a primary focus on the independent agency channel. This role partners closely with Product Management, Operations, Underwriting, and Marketing to drive profitable growth, strengthen agent relationships, and improve overall production results. This position has enterprise-level influence but is scoped appropriately for an AVP role, with accountability for sales strategy execution rather than full enterprise brand stewardship or standalone marketing ownership. The role emphasizes sales leadership, channel performance, and agent experience. ​ Location: This position is remote with preference for candidates in WA and OR, and 50% travel required. Requirements

  • Demonstrated success leading sales teams and driving growth through the independent agency channel.
  • Strong understanding of P&C products, distribution models, and sales economics.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively across product, underwriting, operations, and marketing functions.
  • Experience using data and performance analytics to inform sales strategies and decisions.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship management skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Insurance, or a related field required.
  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in sales leadership roles within the property and casualty insurance industry.

  • Advanced insurance designations (e.g., CPCU, AIC) strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and continuously refine enterprise sales strategies aligned with corporate growth, profitability, and product objectives.
  • Implement enterprise-level sales strategies established by executive leadership, adapting and executing them effectively across all distribution channels.
  • Lead channel strategy execution across the independent agency channel and other distribution partners, ensuring alignment with underwriting appetite and product strategy.
  • Translate business plans into actionable sales initiatives that drive production, retention, and profitable growth.
  • Partner with Product Management to ensure sales strategies align with product positioning, pricing, and market opportunity.
  • Accountable for achieving production, growth, and profitability targets through disciplined sales execution.
  • Establish performance metrics, dashboards, and reporting to monitor channel performance and sales effectiveness.
  • Identify performance gaps and implement corrective actions to improve outcomes.
  • Lead omni-channel service operations with accountability for people, processes, and continuous improvement, leveraging data analytics and customer insights to drive strategic initiatives, retention, and a rare and valuable experience at every touchpoint.
  • Serve as senior leader and advocate for the independent agency channel by building strong relationships with key agency partners to drive mutual growth.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to enhance agent and member experience across the sales and policy lifecycle.
  • Partner with Marketing leadership to ensure sales strategies are supported by effective go-to-market and demand-generation initiatives (without direct ownership of marketing).
  • Collaborate with Underwriting, Operations, and Finance to ensure sales execution aligns with risk appetite, operational capacity, and financial goals.
  • Provide clear communication of sales priorities, strategies, and expectations across the organization.
  • Lead, develop, and coach a high-performing sales organization.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee performance management, talent development, and succession planning within the sales function.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive dynamics, and distribution changes impacting the P&C insurance marketplace.
  • Adjust sales strategies proactively to remain competitive and responsive to market conditions.
  • Leverage data, insights, and emerging tools to improve sales effectiveness and efficiency.
