About The Position

The AVP, Public Cloud Engineer will be a member of a Cloud Team responsible for engineering and supporting public cloud infrastructure. The Engineer will ensure that the foundation, landing zones, and workloads hosted in the public cloud are highly available, fault tolerant, scalable, and secure. Such workloads must align with Synchrony Policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. The Engineer will achieve these outcomes using automation and continuous integration/continuous delivery. We're proud to offer you choice and flexibility. Occasionally you may be required to commute to our nearest office for in person engagement activities such as business or team meetings, training, and culture events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure or cloud architecture; OR in lieu of a degree, 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure or cloud architecture.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and deploying solutions on AWS.
  • Experience in banking OR other highly regulated industries with a focus on compliance frameworks such as PCI DSS, GDPR or SOC 2.
  • Proven expertise designing, implementing, and securing full scale AWS IaaS environments and virtual datacenters (including infrastructure, networking, storage services).
  • Advanced proficiency with IaC tools like Terraform, CloudFormation or AWS CDK.
  • Deep understanding of cloud networking, identity management, security, and governance.

  • Proficiency in analyzing complex challenges and making data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and priorities and staying up to date to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Highly Recommended AWS Certifications: AWS Certified Security - Specialty, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Advanced Networking.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy AWS-based platforms.
  • Utilize Terraform for automation, ensuring scalable and reliable infrastructure.
  • Design and implement automation for secure cloud networking, including subnets, routing, load balancing, firewalls, and security measures.
  • Build automation scripts using Terraform, Ansible, or Python to optimize platform deployment and management.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless platform integration and functionality.
  • Ensure compliance with financial industry standards and best practices; including internal, industry (e.g. PCI), and government regulations (e.g. FedRAMP).
  • Promote best practices for cloud architecture, governance, and operations across the organization.
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
