The Product & Portfolio Manager will lead strategy and manage the performance of our core domestic commercial lines: Commercial Property, Commercial General Liability, Commercial Auto, Commercial Umbrella, and Workers Compensation. They will serve as the leader of one or more assigned line(s), responsible for the full spectrum of product and portfolio management. This includes driving underwriting strategy and standards, pricing strategy, reinsurance strategy, and overall line performance analysis and insights. This position will be considered the expert and trusted advisor to the broader organization for their line(s) of business, as well as a key architect of our underwriting guidelines, appetite, and risk selection criteria – ensuring they evolve with market dynamics and reflect our values of curiosity, agility, and excellence.

  • Serve as the strategic leader for your line(s), accountable for performance, profitability, and underwriting excellence.
  • Develop and continuously refine strategies aligned with BTU’s Vision, Mission, Values, and Objectives & Key Results.
  • Lead quarterly line performance reviews, identify trends, and recommend actionable insights to improve profitability and growth.
  • Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, appetite, risk selection criteria, and associated documentation.
  • Manage reinsurance considerations for your line(s), including exposure management, expense optimization, and use of corporate treaties.
  • Serve as the expert-in-residence for your line(s)—supporting training, conducting underwriting quality reviews, and mentoring underwriters.
  • Lead one of our industry segments, overseeing strategy and performance across all lines within that segment (optional based on experience).
  • Help us operate more like a tech company—leveraging data, automation, and design thinking to challenge traditional insurance models.
  • May perform other functions as assigned.
  • 5+ years of commercial P&C underwriting experience required.
  • Underwriting expertise in one or more core lines.
  • Experience in industry specialization, specifically the technology sector, is a plus.
  • CPCU or other industry designations are a plus.
  • Strong data skills required; advanced Excel, SQL, PowerBI or other skills a plus.
  • Curiosity & Courage: Ability to ask 'why' before assuming 'how' and challenge the status quo.

  • Base Salary Range: $125k - $175k
