The AVP or VP, Private Placements, Private & Structured Credit reports to the Managing Director, Private Placements and provides analytical support and is an integral part of managing the investment-grade private credit portfolio and new deal process.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of credit markets and exposure to a broad range of industries required.
  • Strong written, communication, and presentation skills, combined with a confident and polished business style.
  • Ability to think on feet and ask questions.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Bloomberg, combined with strong financial and accounting skills.
  • Ability to understand, analyze, and question financial statements.
  • Must exhibit self-confidence, self-motivation, discipline, and the ability to assume responsibility for decisions.
  • Bachelor's Degree , preferably in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field required.
  • 5+ years of investment-related/credit experience required.
  • Fixed income or previous credit training preferred.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) , or progress toward preferred.
  • Knowledge of credit markets and exposure to a broad range of industries.
  • Ability to quickly identify key credit points in a private placement offering and propose resolutions / mitigants to potential issues.
  • Strong technical and structuring skills.
  • Technical skills include the ability to determine relative value across credit markets, model fixed income instruments, and evaluate various forms of investment offerings.
  • Structuring skills include the ability to evaluate relative strength covenant packages, determine structural seniority across a corporate structure, read and evaluate note purchase agreements / inter-creditor documents.
  • Ability to deal effectively with people in a variety of relationships and situations.
  • Master's Degree of Business Administration (MBA) or progression towards preferred.
  • 8+ years of investment-related / credit experience in a sophisticated environment required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the underwriting and closing process.
  • Attends roadshow presentations.
  • Coordinates the due diligence process with PPMA credit analysis team members, negotiating legal documentation and attending due diligence trips.
  • Analyzes amendment requests from existing portfolio companies.
  • Monitors portfolio companies and industries for change in credit quality and industry fundamentals.
  • Actively involved in developing and maintaining relationships with bankers, sponsors, and other sources of deal flow.
  • Assists senior Private Placement personnel on various projects and on-going administrative tasks.
  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Evaluates new private placement opportunities to determine fit with PPM credit philosophy and portfolio needs. Specifically, this includes reviewing private placement offering memoranda, performing industry research, and reviewing terms and structure of transactions.
  • Analyzes and negotiates amendment requests from existing portfolio companies.
  • Makes presentations to senior management and other professional staff at PPM as required.
  • Negotiates and executes private placement secondary trades.
