About The Position

The Underwriting Manager/Assistant Vice President of Arch SMS is responsible for the technical underwriting and account management of Middle Market Property and Casualty programs, targeting the Private Equity, Real Estate, Financial Institutions and Healthcare industries. This includes working with retail brokers to attract and retain these accounts.

  • Understanding and knowledge of exposure identification and analysis.

  • Ability to influence, capable of working independently and interdependently.
  • Sound technology capabilities in Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work in a team environment to support others for growth and development.
  • Independent thinker with a forward-thinking vision.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree preferred.
  • At least eight (7) plus years of related experience.
  • Additional industry-specific study or designations (such as CPCU and ARM) preferred.
  • Middle Market Accounts experience required, guaranteed cost program structures.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite, maintain, and grow a profitable book of Property and Casualty business including Workers Compensation, General Liability, Automobile, and Umbrella/Excess placements within the Private Equity vertical.
  • Responsible for managing all Private Equity P&C business and developing key PE broker relationships within the West zone.
  • Collaborate with the Private Equity Industry Practice Leader to drive cross-sell opportunities across various business units.
  • Evaluate and prioritize submissions, analyze exposures and coverage requests.
  • Determine pricing and negotiate program offering, manage all post bind activities.
  • Negotiate and place facultative reinsurance.
  • Manage portfolio metrics.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with retail brokers.
  • Drive pipeline with assigned brokers.
  • Create strategy on target accounts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing insureds through frequent engagement and annual stewardship.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations virtually and in person (when possible).
  • Collaborate with internal team members to deliver excellent service to brokers and clients.
  • Provide ongoing management to direct report(s) to achieve underwriting results and business goals.
