Position Summary AVP Data Engineering will manage and optimize the existing SQL Server data warehouse, oversee a team of 2 FTEs and 7 consultants, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable data solutions aligned with business goals. This role provides technical leadership, drives process improvements, and maintains robust data engineering practices.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of IT experience with a focus on hands-on development and data architecture.
  • Proficient in data modeling, pipeline creation, and merging datasets.
  • Experienced in leading client engagements and translating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • 6+ years of real-world data warehousing project experience, with a deep understanding of architectural principles and design patterns.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake for data warehousing and Spark for data processing.
  • Proven experience in designing efficient and robust ETL/ELT workflows and job scheduling.
  • Expertise in performance tuning of SQL queries and Spark jobs.
  • Experience with Git, Jira, and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a self-driven attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail, collaborative mindset, and curiosity.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Data Warehouse Management: Maintain and optimize the SQL Server data warehouse, ensuring performance, reliability, and data integrity.
  • Process Optimization: Identify and implement enhancements to ETL processes, data pipelines, and operational workflows.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as the technical lead for data engineering initiatives, collaborating with Product Owners, Managers, and agile teams to deliver on sprint and program objectives.
  • Project Delivery: Oversee all aspects of data engineering activities, including design, development, testing, documentation, deployment, and production support.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with business and technology teams to understand requirements and deliver effective data solutions.
  • Standards & Compliance: Ensure adherence to data governance, security policies, and best practices across all data engineering activities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with technology changes, particularly in cloud platforms and data privacy.
