About The Position

The AVP, Corporate Claims Manager at Selective Insurance is responsible for managing a complex General Liability claims unit, ensuring compliance with company policies and delivering superior customer service. This role involves overseeing claims activity, maintaining high professional standards, and driving optimum claims outcomes while supporting operational goals and business objectives.

Requirements

  • College degree required.
  • 10+ years of claims experience, including management of complex claims units.
  • 5+ years of claims supervisory experience.
  • Multi-jurisdictional understanding of legal issues.
  • Ability to lead a team of complex claims specialists experienced in severity claims.
  • Strong people and management skills for performance management of staff.
  • Ability to analyze reports and conduct trend analysis to identify issues.
  • Experience in complex coverage analysis and significant large loss evaluations.
  • Superior communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Moderate proficiency with standard business-related software (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Sufficient keyboarding proficiency to enter data accurately and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, control, and coordinate claims activity and workflow within the claims unit to maintain high customer service and technical standards.
  • Ensure timely settlement of claims and maintain acceptable closing ratios for the department.
  • Prepare operating budget for the unit and monitor and control expenses.
  • Recommend claims procedural changes and implement them according to company guidelines.
  • Maintain override capability, authorize settlements up to designated authority limits, and submit recommendations for claims exceeding authority level.
  • Oversee combined loss ratio and productivity numbers to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Control allocated claims expenses and provide performance management activities for personnel.
  • Conduct claims reviews and settlement conferences, and mediate complaints and disputes regarding claim resolution.
