About The Position

Under the direction of the Vice President, Compliance, serves as a senior leader within the compliance function and a key component to the second line of defense. The position is responsible for the day-to-day execution, oversight, and continuous improvement and maturity of the organization's Compliance Management System (CMS). The role ensures compliance risks are proactively identified, communicated and mitigated, while advancing a culture of compliance, accountability, and member protection. Manages the day-to-day activities of the Compliance Coordinator and provides coaching, mentoring and performance management responsibilities to foster a high-performing, engaged and accountable team.

Requirements

  • BA/BS required, preferably in a business-related field
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience required in a depository institution or regulatory agency. Certified Compliance Officer or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of federal consumer protection regulations (e.g., Reg B, Reg Z, FCRA, HMDA, EFTA/Reg E, UDAAP, TISA/Reg DD) required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability required as well as the ability to conduct thorough research, interpret and understand all Credit Union and CFPB related laws and regulations, and provide workable recommendations and solutions to problems. Must be able to convert complex regulations into actionable guidance.
  • Excellent verbal, written, telephone and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Broad knowledge of, and practical experience with, credit union or other financial institution operating areas, functions, products and services required.
  • Must have a strong service orientation in alignment with the credit union's mission and core values.
  • Ability to handle simultaneously, multiple tasks and changing priorities in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Must have the ability to work with all levels of management, credit union staff, and members and be able to influence outcomes.
  • Must have the ability to create presentations to all levels of the organization for training or reporting purposes as well as produce senior-level reporting.
  • Must be PC proficient, including Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook) and the Internet as well as other spreadsheets and financial analysis programs.
  • Must be able to travel on occasion to conduct credit union business.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily operations of the Compliance Coordinator by providing ongoing supervision, coaching, guidance, and continuous learning. Establishes clear expectations and delegates effectively. Oversees performance management including but not limited to conducting reviews, recommending corrective action, and performing other employment actions. Actively participates in the employee engagement process to ensure a motivated staff. Participates in the interviewing process and hiring of compliance team members as needed.
  • Maintains and enhances the enterprise-wide Compliance Management System consistent with regulatory expectations, business best practices and strategic goals. Leads the development, review, and maintenance of compliance policies, standards, and governance documents. Coordinates and contributes to the annual Compliance Risk Assessment, ensuring risks are appropriately identified, measured and documented.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert on all consumer protection laws and regulations impacting lending, deposits, payments, advertising, servicing, and other functional areas. Provides timely, practical, and actionable regulatory guidance to business partners.
  • Participates in new product, service, and system development initiatives, ensuring compliance requirements are incorporated early and effectively. Reviews and provides compliance guidance on disclosures, marketing, credit card terms, digital content, and other member-facing materials.
  • Oversees the enterprise-wide monitoring program, ensuring controls are evaluated for design and operational effectiveness.
  • Leads root-cause analysis and development of comprehensive corrective action plans for audit, examination and internal findings. Maintains and reports on corrective action tracking dashboards, ensuring issues are resolved timely and sustainably. Partners with the Credit Union's external internal audit firm, ERM, IT, and Operations to strengthen controls and remediate issues.
  • Develops, maintains, and presents compliance dashboard metrics and trend analysis to the Regulatory and Compliance Committee.
  • Manages the development, delivery, and maintenance of the compliance training curriculum across the enterprise. Promotes a culture of compliance through communication, coaching, and partnership with business lines. Ensures training content aligns with regulatory requirements, risk trends, and operational realities.
  • Leads the annual HMDA filing process and certifies the completeness and accuracy of submitted data. Coordinates with BSA/AML, Legal, Information Security, Government Affairs, Internal Audit, Operations and the broader Risk Division to ensure enterprise alignment.
