About The Position

This position ensures the YMCA of Greater Seattle's success of the financial development program through the continued significant growth and success of association wide and branch based philanthropic efforts, as well as relationship building with community leaders and partners. In consultation with the Chief Development Officer, members of the senior leadership team and finance, the position directs and manages the annual fundraising efforts to support organization-wide initiatives. The position also ensures effective operation of the Financial Development department and their support of branches, other centers of excellence. The position leads a team of fundraisers ensuring best practices are followed in fundraisign including prospect development and cultivation, private/public grant submittals and solicitation activities. The position develops and directs funding campaigns, the donor cultivation program and major related events. Together with the Chief Development Officer, the AVP creates and supports capital, planned giving and endowment strategies, and implementation thereof, for the YMCA of Greater Seattle. Supervises Financial Development staff and manages the department budget. Supports the YMCA 's other development, communications and public relation activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, financial development, communication, public relations, human services or equivalent. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  • Ten or more years of successful full-time financial fund development experience in a non-profit organization with experience in individual, campaigns, major gifts, corporate, foundation, and public sector fundraising experience.
  • Seven or more year’s successful experience managing and supporting community leaders and major donors contributing at or above $1M annually.
  • Five or more years successful experience leading and managing a high performing staff team.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of philanthropy within an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to solicit multi-year and six and seven figure gifts.
  • Ability to exercise effective judgment and resourcefulness in setting priorities.
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities to challenge traditional thinking and generate possible new approaches in a manner that is constructive and value-adding.
  • Direct experience in relationship building internal and external to an organization with volunteers, senior level community leaders and staff.
  • Direct experience working with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, ).
  • Strong and engaging verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong, results-oriented collaboration, project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities with attention to quality and timeliness.
  • Willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule consistent with the demands and needs of an executive team, volunteers, community leaders, and related special events.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
  • Masters degree in business administration, nonprofit administration or equivalent CFRE certification preferred
  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful

Responsibilities

  • Develops annual Campaign: plans, coordinates and implements strategies to develop donors and contributions to support the Y’s mission.
  • Implements year-round macro and micro level financial development operational plans, inclusive of donor identification, engagement, solicitation and recognition.
  • Develops and implements successful strategies related to fund development in diverse communities and through all generations.
  • Develops institutional strategy for fundraising including corporate giving and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Leads the private foundation, corporate foundation, and public grant strategies.
  • Leads the continuous improvement of the major giving component of the annual campaign using a structured prospect identification, solicitation process/methodology.
  • Provides day to day management of the Financial Development Department operations inclusive of the department budget. Creates and Monitors the donation allocations budget and supports the CDO with expenditure decisions.
  • Develops, analyzes and reports on key financial development measures and metrics.
  • Acts as project manager on assigned strategic projects and partnership opportunities.
  • Integrates financial development best practices, with innovative, impactful leading edge practices.
  • Develops and implements a member to donor giving strategy through collaboration with branch executives.
  • Communicates consistently with program teams to facilitate work to achieve philanthropic goals.
  • Provides leadership in the planning, coordination and execution of strategies for program teams during comprehensive campaign.
  • Provides overall leadership and management of staff/team members, inclusive of hiring, performance management and development.
  • Develop and implement strategies to retain board members’ and volunteers’ engagement in fundraising and donor engagement activities
