About The Position

Berkley Speciality Property is a leading Lloyd's Syndicate underwriting Property, Crisis Management, Engineering & Construction, Asset Protection and Specialty Casualty. The AVP, Commercial Property Binding Authority Broker is responsible for the development and implementation of the account evaluation and binding strategy at WRB Specialty. The position reports to the Director of Specialty Property and works with both Field and Staff functional areas. S/he executes, binds, and monitors accounts for WRB Specialty business and is in regular contact and communication with WRB Underwriting based in London. Key functions include but are not limited to: Daily management of the workload to ensure the effective solicitation, selection, pricing, and retention of profitable business. Helps to develop and implement best practices in line with the London Commercial Property Team Aids in the development and management of appetite, guidelines, forms, forms usage, terms and conditions, training, and communications Engages with IT, Operations, Actuary, Finance, Marketing and Claims functions and works to develop and/or strengthen interdepartmental relationships with these other disciplines. Adheres to account quality and compliance processes and controls, including peer reviews, self-audit reviews, management reviews, coordination of WRBC reviews. Adheres to established authority for all market segments and exercises sound judgment in risk selection, exposure analysis, pricing and coverage in evaluating and approving or rejecting individual-risk submissions from brokers. Collaborates with team members and other departments regarding regulatory issues. Monitors and communicates emerging issues that are relevant to WRB Specialty future planned strategies and processes. Working with the Director of Specialty Property and Chief actuary, ensures rate adequacy and pricing integrity in line with WRB London standards. Responsible for collaborating with the Director of Specialty Property, WRB Specialty and WRB on reinsurance placement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degrees and/or industry certifications preferred.
  • 5+ years of commercial P&C experience with deep understanding of Property exposures and coverages.
  • Holds a California surplus line broker license as an individual.
  • Deep discipline and knowledge in the insurance field, with experience in Commercial Property lines of business, and a broad understanding of the critical issues in other related areas
  • Successful experience evidenced by quantifiable results.
  • Knowledge of the insurance regulatory environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Competent analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to multi-task and to independently prioritize competing demands/requests within given time constraints.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and effectively make sound business decisions.
  • Ability to creatively resolve unique and challenging business problems.
