This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. At Blue Origin, you’ll apply your technical expertise and leadership to shape the future of space exploration. As an Avionics Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in the New Glenn Rocket program, collaborating with a skilled team to design, develop, and qualify mission-critical avionics hardware, enabling reliable and reusable spaceflight to advance our vision of millions living and working in space. As part of a small, hard-working and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for supporting and representing the Electrical Harness Design team at our internal Electrical Harness Manufacturing Shop. This is a hands-on position that will involve you in all aspects of engineering, design, fabrication, installation and test. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Requirements

  • B.S. degree or higher in Electrical or an appropriate engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing Wire Harnesses for the Aerospace industry.
  • 7+ years of experience supporting manufacturing of Wire Harnesses for the Aerospace industry.
  • Experience performing harness fabrication and installation.
  • Experience with Creo and Windchill and Routed System Designer (RSD).
  • Understanding and application of wire derating analysis.
  • Knowledgeable with existing applicable harness standards: IPC/WHMA-A-620A, NASA-STD-8739.4.
  • Strong electrical/mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software.
  • Knowledgeable on 6 sigma principles.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Nice To Haves

  • IPC/WHMA-A-620A Certification.
  • M.S. in Industrial Engineering.
  • Experience with Pro/E Piping.
  • Experience with other high-end CAD routing software such as Unigraphics NX Electrical and Mechanical Routing.
  • Experience with launch vehicle or spacecraft electrical/mechanical systems.
  • 6 Sigma Green/Black belt certification.

Responsibilities

  • Answer all design related questions coming from our internal Electrical Harness Manufacturing Shop.
  • Lead and coordinate the selection of harness components and hardware, connectors, backshells, cable and wire.
  • Understanding and application of EMI/RFI and harness shielding.
  • Creation of Non-Conformances (NC) items in our internal system.
  • Help with the creation of Non-Conformances (NC) dispositions.
  • Create/update redline drawings for the 2D electrical harness drawings.
  • Release Redline drawings in Windchill.
  • Lead and coordinate any improvement initiatives associated to increase rate, productivity, and efficiency at our internal Electrical Harness Manufacturing Shop.
  • Lead, coordinate and identify any initiatives and updates required in the design engineering to facilitate automation during harness manufacturing.
  • Lead and coordinate process updates and improvements based on our internal Electrical Harness Manufacturing Shop feedback.
  • Provide technical guidance for harness manufacturing.
  • Support the assembly and testing of cables and harnesses.
  • Report on activity schedule and technical status.
  • Identify opportunities for technical improvements.
