CMT is seeking a Planner I, an early-career professional focused on developing fundamental planning knowledge and technical skills. This role supports planning projects under structured supervision, offering hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to a variety of public-sector planning efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aviation Management, Urban Planning, or a related discipline
  • 0–3 years of experience in planning or a related field
  • Basic knowledge of planning techniques, tools, and principles

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments on a variety of projects, work in an environment to learn quickly, take initiative and interact with a variety of people located in Kansas City and other CMT offices

  • Demonstrated responsiveness, professionalism, and teamwork
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Exposure to ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD, or other technical software required of the practice area

Responsibilities

  • Acquire foundational industry knowledge while working under the guidance of experienced planners
  • Complete assigned planning tasks of limited complexity, including data collection, analysis, design support, and technical writing
  • Utilize technical software to perform analytical and planning-related assignments
  • Develop public-facing documents that clearly communicate technical information to diverse audiences
  • Perform field surveys, investigations, and data collection in support of planning studies, as needed
  • Manage assigned tasks independently, ensuring adherence to project scope and deadlines
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental, safety, and governmental regulations as directed
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of planning projects
