About The Position

The Adjunct Instructor for Aviation courses is responsible for the planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom and/or laboratory instruction and related activities. An Adjunct Instructor performs all other duties as directed by the Division Chairperson, appropriate Director, the President, or the President's designee. Adjunct instructors are employed on a part-time, per course basis for one semester, as determined by the Division Chairperson for each academic division. These are non-tenure positions. In addition to adhering to the general guidelines as specified by the Faculty/Staff Handbook, the Department Chairperson, the Dean of Instruction, the Dean of Students, the President, and Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, responsibilities will include the following: Teach assigned courses to the best of ability employing professional methods and adhering to the contents of the College Catalog and amendments thereto. Maintain the instructional program and resources at a high level of quality and efficiency by continuously upgrading course materials and recommending additional instructional equipment and materials. Maintain accurate records of student grades and other reports. Submit such reports as may be requested by the Department Chairperson, the Associate Dean of Learning, and the Dean of Instruction, including submitting final grades by the required deadline. Acquire instructor textbooks, training manuals, and any other materials necessary for the instruction of each discipline. Work closely with the Department Chairperson to assure quality teaching and learning methodologies. Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies. Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning. Attend periodic professional development training as required by the Department Chairperson, the Associate Dean of Learning, the Dean of Instruction, and the President. Work well with others and show respect to all college constituents. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Department Chairperson, the Associate Dean of Learning, the Dean of Instruction, or the President.

Requirements

  • A master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in the field of Aviation from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent experiences in the field, or other demonstrated competencies, achievements, and or certifications that contribute to effective teaching and student learning outcomes.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • An understanding of and a commitment to the philosophy and mission of the two-year college system.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and various situations in a professional manner.
  • Certified Flight Instructor, Remote Pilot License, or Private Pilot License.
  • Teaching experience.
