Aviation Civil Engineer -- Aviation Job Title: Aviation Civil Engineer Location: Albuquerque, NM Join the Team That's Elevating Airports Across New Mexico At Bohannan Huston, we help communities stay connected by delivering exceptional engineering solutions to airports across the region. We're looking for an experienced Civil Engineer to join our Aviation Engineering Group in Albuquerque, NM, and bring that mission to life. The Role You'll Play You won't just design runways-you'll help design what keeps people and goods moving throughout New Mexico. As a Civil Engineer in our Aviation Group, you'll work closely with experienced engineers and project managers to support airport projects through every phase-planning, design, and delivery. Your day-to-day work will include preparing construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D, developing specifications, and collaborating on project management tasks. You'll also have the opportunity to grow your leadership by mentoring junior team members and learning directly from senior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • PE license in New Mexico (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • 5-10 years of experience in civil engineering-aviation or government project background preferred
  • Design experience in runway/taxiway layout, airport planning, drainage, or airfield lighting is a plus
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communicator-clear, prompt, and polished in both written and verbal interactions.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with a drive to hit deadlines and deliver high-quality work.
  • Positive attitude and collaborative spirit-you enjoy being part of a fast-moving, technical team.
  • Comfortable traveling across New Mexico for site visits and client meetings.
  • Open to feedback, eager to grow, and curious about new engineering technologies.
  • Customer-focused and entrepreneurial in your approach to problem-solving.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with FAA standards and software like FAARFIELD is a bonus

Responsibilities

  • Design & Technical Support -- Contribute to the design and documentation of airfield projects using Civil 3D, assisting in the creation of construction plans, specs, and technical documents that meet FAA and client standards.
  • Project Assistance -- Help manage budgets, schedules, and contract documents, supporting experienced engineers in the delivery of successful aviation projects.
  • Team Collaboration -- Work side by side with engineers, technicians, and clients, supporting both day-to-day tasks and long-term project goals.
  • Mentorship & Learning -- Support and guide junior team members while continuing your own professional development in all aspects of aviation civil engineering.
