General Summary: The AV System Designer is responsible for designing, engineering, and supporting commercial audio‑visual systems across a wide variety of client environments. This role requires strong technical expertise in audio, video, and control systems, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, CAD, programming, staging, and field teams. The AV System Designer oversees projects from initial concept through commissioning, ensuring technical accuracy, quality, and client satisfaction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of experience designing and engineering commercial audio-visual systems.
  • Three (3) years of experience installing, troubleshooting, and commissioning AV equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Technical experience with platforms such as Crestron, Biamp, Q-SYS, and Extron.
  • Ability to create and interpret system drawings, familiarity with AutoCAD.

Nice To Haves

  • CTS certification (CTS-D or CTS-I a plus).
  • Additional industry certifications in relevant manufacturer technologies.
  • Experience working in a collaborative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • System Design & Engineering Design audio, video, and control systems that align with client needs, AVIXA standards, and ADA requirements.
  • Develop system architectures using technologies such as Biamp, Q-SYS, Crestron, Extron, DVLED, distributed video, and routing platforms.
  • Produce Bills of Materials (BOM), Statements of Work (SOW), and technical sketches for proposed solutions.
  • Perform detailed design reviews with the AV engineering team to validate system integrity and feasibility.
  • Documentation & Coordination Create and revise system documentation, collaborating with the CAD team to ensure accuracy and consistency within project drawings.
  • Work closely with staging and configuration specialists to verify completeness of pre-installation deliverables.
  • Partner with AV programmers to confirm that control and audio programming meet SOW requirements and client expectations.
  • Project Support & Execution Provide remote technical support to on-site installation technicians during deployment.
  • Support AV Field Engineers during the commissioning phase to ensure systems function as designed.
  • Maintain responsibility for the technical success of assigned projects from initial discussions through commissioning and client training.
  • Technical Support Deliver Level 2 helpdesk support for audio-visual systems and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Assist internal teams with troubleshooting and resolving complex AV system challenges.
