CMU’s Computing Services department is searching for a Principal AV Technology Enhanced Facility Technician . This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. This position will be responsible for the overall maintenance, inspection, and support of integrated AV systems on and off-campus, including event spaces, conference rooms, and various learning and departmental facilities. The candidate will leverage a foundational understanding of AV system design and integration to troubleshoot, document and resolve issues, maintain inventory, assist with equipment delivery and installation, and perform other duties as assigned. This role requires professional autonomy to perform critical and time-sensitive IT support tasks in an office environment, including VIP event assistance, remote phone support, vendor and contractor correspondence, and additional technical and logistical responsibilities as directed. The candidate should be prepared to develop comprehensive and specialized system knowledge in order to function as an escalation point for their team, mentor and train new staff, and troubleshoot in high-pressure situations. A Principal Technician may also be asked to provide operational insight to engineering and managerial staff, and assist in logistical responsibilities relating to new projects and installations.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent mix of education and experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in an Audio-Visual field, or equivalent mix of education and experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular inspection of A/V systems and equipment
  • Generate inspection reports
  • Create and repair A/V umbilicals and cabling
  • Assist in testing A/V equipment prior to installation
  • Assist with bi-annual deep cleaning
  • Troubleshoot user issues
  • Address issues escalated by more junior staff
  • Answering calls (ex: Trouble calls, orders)
  • Attend weekly project meetings
  • Mentor more junior technicians
  • Collaborate and assist the Engineering team where appropriate
  • Perform inspections of high profile spaces and/or as needed.
  • Collaborate with University faculty, staff, students, external vendors, and non-University contractors for the successful implementation and support of A/V services
