Summary The Auxiliary Operator will work under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor and the direction of the Control Room Operator. They will be responsible for the operation and inspection of various systems and equipment as assigned. Normally, their assigned areas will include the boilers and associated systems such as fans, grates, ash and air pollution control systems, the demineralizer, and the testing of water chemistry. In addition, the Auxiliary Operator will perform the duties of Crane Operator. This position is a 2 month rotating shift that requires some evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. This is a full-time, non-union, non-exempt position. The Auxiliary Operator reports to the Shift Supervisor. This position is located at Kent County WTE in Grand Rapids, MI.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years previous experience with high pressure boilers and electric generating equipment. Former military or other technical training may be accepted in lieu of experience.
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Must submit to a company provided physical and drug screening.
  • Must possess a valid driver license in good standing in order to operate a company vehicle. Must have and maintain a driving record meeting the standards of the company.
  • Standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, walking on uneven surfaces, and grating, working from elevated platforms, scaffolding or ladders, required to lift up to and including 50 pounds and maneuver up to and including 100 pounds.
  • Must qualify to wear a respirator.
  • Ability to tolerate confined spaces, and varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Exposed to temperature extremes, high noise level areas, high pressure steam lines, rotating equipment, high voltage equipment and dusty/dirty environment with exposure to Municipal Solid Waste/ Ash.
  • Required to wear PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining safe and efficient operation of their assigned equipment in accordance with the established plant operating procedures.
  • Recording data, reporting equipment malfunctions or trends, which indicate possible trouble, and performing actions as directed to correct abnormal operating conditions or emergency situations.
