Summary: Monitors and operates auxiliary equipment to maintain safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations. The Auxiliary Operator - Ash Handler will perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs to ash handling, tipping floor, and other assigned auxiliary systems. They will also be responsible for operating ash handling equipment and loading metals as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
  • Six months experience or related training desirable.
  • Mechanical abilities sufficient to perform equipment maintenance, minor repairs and general preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Operates mobile equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment.
  • Operates and completes all inspections on frontend loader on the Tipping Floor and in Ash House areas.
  • Qualified to operate refuse crane and front-end loader as required in support and employee relief capacity.
  • Applies mechanical knowledge and skills sufficient to perform routine tasks such as opening vessels and equipment access doors, placing and removing furnace access equipment, overhead protection and staging, operating power tools and performing minor repairs to plant equipment and structures.
  • Maintains and follows all Facility environmental compliance, health and safety requirements, policies, procedures and rules.
  • Use of 15,000 psi water blaster systems for cleaning, drain clearing and other activates as assigned following competency training.
  • Use of mobile water pumps including diesel operated, gasoline powered, pneumatic and hydraulic. MSW Ash dewatering evolutions and compliant ash handling.
  • Follows standard safety procedures. Corrects safety and environmental hazards and reports them to supervision immediately.
  • Work overtime and/or rotating shifts as required.
  • Shovels loose materials such as sand, gravel, metals, plastics, or chemicals into machine hoppers or into vehicles and containers such as wheelbarrows, scrap truck, or barrels.
